DEXA Scanning (Bone Density Scan)

Dual Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is a test to measures the density of your bones to show how strong they are, helping to diagnose osteoporosis and establish an individual patient’s risk of a fracture.  There is no special preparation for the scan and it takes about 15 minutes to complete.

Insurance cover: Direct billing is not available from DEXA scanning but the expenses can be claimed back depending on your insurance policy at the end of the year.

Direct payment: A DEXA scan costs 100 euro.

Appointments: Most DEXA appointments can be facilitated within 1-2 days of referral. Urgent requests can be performed on the same day. A referral letter from your doctor is required when the scan is booked.
